Since I'm feeling rather crappy today, I thought it might cheer me up a bit if I listed some good things in my life.
1. A job I love. There's just something about helping students learn the skills they need to succeed in life. Some days are difficult, but most days I can look back with the knowledge that at least one student got something out of my class.
2. A family that loves me. Even though I'm a lousy correspondent, and I don't keep in touch as well as I could, I know they're there if the crap really hits the fan, if only to commiserate.
3. A kitty that depends on me and responds with purrs and headbutts just when I feel my lowest. Some days I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a warm fuzzy to come home to.
4. A comfortable home. Not neat, not big, but it is more than just a shelter.
5. Food in my home even though I complain "There's nothing to eat around here!" This is especially helpful when I've overdrawn and can't even buy a loaf of bread with which to make a sandwich.
6. Friends who will help me when life comes crashing down. 'Nuff said.
7. Lots of clothes. I really should sort through again and get rid of the things I've either shrunk out of or haven't worn for like 5 years...
8. Hot water! Having had on occasion to shower without it, I very much appreciate it now.
9. General good health, in spite of diabetes and depression. I can walk without difficulty, I can breathe, I can stretch, and what pains I have are minor, when all's said and done.
10. Books! Books are our friends. You can re-read old favorites, re-discover old forgotten ones, and dive into new ones.
Okay, I do feel a bit better now.

Point 1: Work is going well. Yeah, the kids (and the teachers!) are suffering a bit from spring fever, but most of the students seem to be getting serious about their work. We've had two teachers take medical leaves of absense because of accidents (one broke her ankle stepping down from a step-ladder; one rolled his vehicle and was hospitalized for a few days). Makes me wonder who'll be next, if troubles really do come in threes. I have to get in a purchase requisition on materials I want to use next year with the ELL students, plus I have to make one for the teacher who broke her ankle since she can't very well do it from home. I'm short on money, thanks to having some days of leave without pay since I'm out of sick leave, but I should make it to my next paycheck so long as no emergencies come up.
Point 2: The Lantus seems to be doing its job--my sugars are more in keeping with where they should be, plus it seems to be helping me with my weight loss. Either that or my limited finances which keep me from my junk food habit (or maybe the combination) has gotten me down 5 pounds since my visit to the doctor last week.
Point 3: I really appreciate my cat, Yorkie, in spite of his somewhat agressive habit of playing with my hand. He won't play with cat toys, and catnip doesn't seem to thrill him all that much, but he lurves playing with my hand. This is okay until his nails get too sharp, at which point I have scratches and know it's time to trim. But he's a cuddler (just not a lap cat--he wants to lean against you, instead), which helps when I don't feel good and just want to go into a blue funk.
Point 4: Only 8 more weeks of school this semester!
